Expiration dates for option contracts on a certain underlying stock follow a predictable cycle. Every stock with listed options is part of one of three annual cycles that remains the same each year. The three cycles are:
01. January, April, July, October (JAJO)
02. February, May, August, November (FMAN)
03. March, June, September, December (MJSD)
Depending on which cycle the underlying stock belongs to, option contracts will be available for those months. Typically, there will be two near-term expiration months and two far-term months available for investors to trade. Investors can refer to the underlying stock's option chain to see which contract months are currently available.
